Cardboard Cowboy Cutouts

Cardboard Cowboy Cutouts have been carrying the torch for real, roots-driven country music since 1999. Formed around the simple belief that country songs should feel lived-in, honest, and played by real musicians in the room, the band has grown into one of the most quietly influential traditional-country collectives of the last 25 years.

Built around a core six-piece lineup — Guitar/Vocals, Lead Guitar/Vocals, Pedal Steel, Fiddle, Bass/Vocals, and Drums — the Cutouts have also become known for their ever-expanding family of musicians. More than 100 players have contributed to the band’s recordings and live shows, including harmonica, piano, saxophone, Hammond organ, and the beloved Cardboard Cowgirl Cutouts who step in for harmony and background vocals.

The lineup is unpredictable by design. Anyone who has ever played with the Cutouts is welcome to step onstage at any show — a living tribute to the band’s long, winding history, and to the members who are no longer with us. No two performances are the same, and fans have embraced the magic of never knowing exactly who will be onstage.

In 2026 the band enters a new chapter: a full-year studio marathon dedicated to recording as many songs as possible — brand-new originals, reimagined classics, and unexpected covers shaped by decades of influences and friendships. Their first new release in over a year, “Sad Country Song” (written by Ritchie Ritchison and John Niven), arrives January 9, 2026, marking the official start of the Cutouts’ creative resurgence.

Traditional Country Music in the 21st Century isn’t just a tagline — it’s a promise they’ve kept for more than two decades, and they’re not slowing down now.
